The quick test transfers a few megabytes. The full test transfers test files to Cloudflare's nearest data centre, hundreds of megabytes on a fast connection, worth noting on mobile data. The result is not sent anywhere.
What do the numbers mean?
- Download is how fast your computer receives data. It shows in video playback, updates and files opened from the cloud.
- Upload is how fast your computer sends data. It shows in video calls, backups and sending large attachments.
- Latency is the time one packet takes from your computer to the server and back. Low latency keeps remote sessions and video calls smooth.
- Jitter is how steady the latency is. High jitter is heard as choppy audio and seen as stuttering video.
The ratings for video calls, streaming and gaming are calculated with Cloudflare's AIM methodology, which weights the numbers that matter most for each use.
How is the test done?
Your browser downloads and uploads test files to Cloudflare's nearest data centre. Cloudflare is the same service this website runs on, so the test opens no connection to any new party. The result stays in your browser: it is not sent to us or to Cloudflare.
If you are in touch with our support, press Copy result after the test and paste it into your message. It tells us right away whether the problem is the connection or something else.
