# WordPress or a custom-coded website?
There’s no single right answer to this question — but there is one for your case

Many vendors answer this based on what they happen to sell. We build both, so we can say it plainly: each one is a good choice in the right situation and the wrong choice in the wrong one.

## When is each one the right choice?
 WordPress is better when - you update content yourself often and want a familiar text editor
- you need an online store, a booking system or a members’ area
- the site has hundreds of pages or a large product catalogue
- you want to extend the site later without a development project
- several people maintain the content in different roles

 A custom-coded site is better when - the site is your most important sales channel and speed is decisive
- content changes rarely, or updates are bought from a partner
- the design has to match your brand exactly, not be a variation of a theme
- you need custom integrations with your own systems
- you want as little to maintain as possible and a small attack surface

## What does a custom-coded website mean?
In a custom-coded build, the pages are built in advance, before anyone opens them. The visitor’s browser receives a finished page — not a database query and a chain of plugins. You see it in load speed, and in the fact that there is less to maintain: no plugins, no database, no version updates to test.

It’s only honest to state the trade-off: changing the structure of the content usually requires us. If you want to add a new kind of section to a page, it’s a small development task, not a plugin picked from a menu.

This site you’re reading is a custom-coded build. It’s built with Astro and it runs on Cloudflare’s network. You can judge the load speed and the look from this site and decide whether it’s what you’re after.

## What about a third option?
In spring 2026, Cloudflare released a content management system called EmDash, which combines the speed of a custom-coded site with a WordPress-style content editor. It’s built on the same technology as this site, so the platform is already familiar to us.

We don’t offer it for client work yet, though. EmDash is still a developer preview, and its interfaces may still change. We’re following its development and will add it to the options once it’s stable enough for your company’s website.
